A big wide world
I remember the back door was open one day, and I rushed toward it. Standing at the doorsill, I looked down at the small stair I would have to step down to get out of the house. I decided I could do it.
I looked into the big grassy back yard. I could see the fruit trees and my mom's horse eating grass. I could not wait to get out there. I wobbled on my little feet as I grabbed the side of the doorway preparing to take that step outside.
Right then, my mom picked me up and closed the door in one motion. I remember feeling so angry that she did not trust that I could go outside by myself. I wanted to show her that I could take that step by myself.
I could walk, but I couldn't talk yet, or I would have told her how mad I was.
